When written as まぬけ in Hirogana (one of the Japanese alphabets) it translates directly to "Goofy" in english.

Individually the characters translate as such.

ま - Means a blank space, with no real meaning individually. It's just there to spell out the word.

ぬ - Translates to Gone

け - Translates to Contractor

Therefore when taken literally as spelled and not as the whole meaning of the word. Manuke means "Contractor that has left"

When written as マヌケ in Katakana (another Japanese alphabet) manuke translates directly to "Manche" A manche is a hanging sleeve, such as on a kimono or robe.

Individually the characters have no meaning as the katakana is a literal alphabet. Such as how in out alphabet F has no meaning unless used as a word. The same goes for Katakana. Until it spells out a word it has no meaning other than the sound that it's read as.
