It doesn't teach us much about the CAUSE of sin,

but it sure teaches us about the RESULT of sin.

Adam and Eve were our first parents, created perfect in a beautiful paradise. THEY turned away from God, lost it all, and became sinners, passing sin and death on to Cain, Abel and all of us.(Romans 5:12)(Romans 6:23)(1 Corinthians 15:22) For some time before Cain murdered Abel, his attitude was already bad (Genesis 4:6&7), and sin had made enough inroads into his heart, that he actually carried out a murder (James 1:14&15), killing his righteous brother(Hebrews 11:4).

Today we see hatred, crime, sickness and death everywhere in our world, all because our original parents listened to God's enemy.(1 John 3:10-12)(John 8:44)

A:In the early biblical story of Cain and Abel, God revealed that he enjoyed the pleasure of good food offered to him. Abel sacrificed one of his young lambs, which pleased God, while Cain just offered grain from his farm, which displeased God. Rather than placating and encouraging Cain, God scolded him for showing his feelings.

Later, when they were in the fields, Cain rose up against Abel and killed him. We already know from the story of Adam and Eve that God walked around and talked to people just like a human himself (as in Genesis 3:8), and here God spoke to Cain, asking of his brother. God banished Cain for his sin but, being merciful, placed a mark on him so that all the other people would not seek to kill him.

Another Answer:

That He patiently loves each of us and warns us against the approaching harms of 'sin.' Cain had a better option but succumbed to sin and the rest is history. All offerings to the God of Creation are acceptable if done in a humble and respectful way. It is when we 'skimp' or decide to give a lesser quality/quantity of offering, that we violate its intent.

Genesis 4:6-7New King James Version (NKJV)

6 So the Lord said to Cain, "Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen? 7 If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it."

God has given mankind 'free will' and we choose our paths. We are not robots. But the message of the many stories of man's faults and shortcomings are listed in Scripture with the ultimate message being one of God's great love for each and everyone of us (John 3:16).

What is the author's purpose in the story of Cain and Abel?

A:The story of Adam and Eve was a highly sophisticated moral tale. The story of Cain and Abel, by the same author, continued the theme of God's creation and told how we are to please God. Written at a time when God rewarded burnt sacrifices, it tells how he was pleased by Abel's sacrifice of a young lamb, but displeased by Cain's sacrifice of grain. Cain's envy of Abel and his murder of Abel are incidental to this story. The story of Cain and Abel establishes the theme that the very best meat must be sacrificed on the altar to God, repeated later through the Old Testament. Perhaps the early priests who partook of the offerings were anxious to ensure a proper fare.

In the Bible Adam two son started wrestling what is the story?

If you're talking about the story of Cain and Abel, Adam's sons, it is the story of the first murder. They both were giving sacrifices to God, and Abel willingly gave his best lamb, while Cain grudgingly gave some of his plants. God looked with favor on Abel, not Cain, and so Cain ended up killing Abel. God cursed Cain, and Adam had another son, Seth I believe, that took the place of Abel as the 'good' son, and the line Noah (of Noah and the ark) came from.

Why are Cain and Abel famous?

Cain and Abel are famous because they were two brothers in the Bible who were involved in the first recorded murder, where Cain killed Abel out of jealousy. Their story is a significant part of the Judeo-Christian tradition and has been retold in various cultural and religious contexts.

What was Cain's respone to God's question when he killed his brother?

There are several ways of defining the conflict between Cain and Abel. In Genesis, Cain kills Abel because God was pleased with his sacrificial offering, but rejected Cain's offering.Leon R. Kass (The Beginning of Wisdom: Reading Genesis) points out that the birth of Abel is not celebrated by his mother. Abel, introduced only as "his brother, Abel" seems to be an afterthought. There is no described relation to his mother, only to Cain. If he is important only or mainly as Cain's brother, arguably he only exists in the Book of Genesis to play his role in the drama that follows.Asaph Sagiv believes that there is an Egyptian antecedent to the story of Cain and Abel. He suggests that the Cain and Abel story represents a biblical countermyth to the Egyptian story of Osiris and his brother Seth. In that story, Seth, an evil god of the nomads, kills Osiris, the Egyptian god of the earth's fertility. In Genesis, Cain (an Osiris figure) offers a cult sacrifice (Abel) to the earth; the Lord curses the ground for accepting the victim's blood and banishes Cain from his divine presence; and Seth appears as a substitute for the nomadic victim whose sacrifice the biblical God preferred. There is also a possible nationalistic theme to the story. The Hebrews identified themselves as keepers of sheep, while their neighbours to the west and north were farmers, or tillers of the ground. We find that the innocent victim was a keeper of sheep, while the evil Cain was a farmer.

Cain being his brothers keeper?

What is the conflict in Cain and Abel?

Did Abel provoke Cain to anger?

A:In the biblical story, Abel does seem to have provoked Cain to anger, but not intentionally. He knew that God would be pleased by a sacrifice of tender meat, so made an offering of a young lamb. God was so pleased with this offering that Cain could not fail to notice. Cain only offered the grain that he, as a farmer, grew, which displeased God. Cain's murder of Abel was incidental to this story which was really about how to please God. The story establishes the theme that the very best meat must be sacrificed on the altar to God, repeated later through the Old Testament. Perhaps the early priests who partook of the offerings were also anxious to ensure a proper fare.

What crime had Cain committed against his brother Abel?

According to the Bible, Cain killed Abel because he was jealous that Abel's sacrifice was accepted by God, while Cain's was rejected. "And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him." - Genesis 4:8

Why did god ask Cain where his brother was?

Abel owed God money.
