One can measure his or her cardiovascular endurance by passing different physical tests that moderately sollicit all the muscles of the body during a certain amount of time. Such tests include:

  • Cooper test for physical fitness: The subject has twelve (12) minutes to achieve the greatest distance he or she can by running, jogging or swimming at a regular pace. One can have a good idea of his or her physical fitness depending on the distance achieved, the age and the gender.
  • Navette test: Two lines are separated by a distance of twenty (20) meters. The subject has to walk (then jogg, and eventually run) from one line to another at a regular pace, while increasing his or her speed by 0.5 km/h after each minute. The subject has to last as much time as he or she can. Once again, cardiovascular endurance is given by taking into account time achieved, age and gender.

There are many more tests for cardiovascular endurance, but these two are the basic ones. Don't hesitate to ask a personal trainer on how to pass these tests and how to interpret the results.
