Best Answer

Tiptronic refers to a type of automobile transmission developed by Porsche, that is also used in Audis and Volkswagens. When engaged the gears are shifted manaully by the driver but without the use of a clutch pedal. This allows for greater control over acceleration and engine breaking. The transmission will shift automatically in some cases to protect the engine such as in the case of redlining or decelerating to the point where the engine would stall because the revolutions are too low.
