I'm a bit surprised by the suggestion that the RAF defeated Germany. Didn't they get a wee bit of help from ... lots of other groups and countries?

The commander of the main Confederate Army was General Robert E. Lee. The Union's main army, the Army of the Potomac, had several major commanders. In order of command they were General GB McClellan, General Ambrose Burnside, general Joseph "Fighting Joe" Hooker, General George Meade, and general Ulysses S. Grant. McClellan was the commander from 1861 to 1862, Burnside was know for his terrible deeat at Fredricksburg. He and Hooker only commanded for a few months. Meade won the major battle of Gettysburg, but didn't chase down the Confedarate army. Grant was then brought in from the West to replce him, and fought Lee from 1863 to 1865, when he defeated Lee. I would say that McClellan and Grant were the two mos important leaders in the army of the Potomac.
