Yeast is naturally occurring in the body, certain conditions will increase yeast growth. For example warm moist conditions encourage yeast growth so things like wearing tight synthetic clothing can lead to yeast infections, changes in vaginal pH such as by using soaps to wash with will increase risk of yeast infections, also high sugar diet can lead to yeast infections too.

Yeast infection comes from many things depending on individuals. It could be caused by: using flavored condoms (if you are sensitive to them), perfumed soaps, dry sex (can cause blisters which could grow bacteria in them), tight inner clothing etc. It can be contagious only through penetration and/or oral sex (oral only if you are sensitive or allergic to your partner's sperms, then you'd probably get mouth yeast infection)

Yeast infections are a result of overgrowth of naturally occurring yeast within the body, sometimes they can be sexually transmitted but normally they occur on their own. They are often a result of the area infected being allowed to get warm/moist or women using chemicals around their vagina's which changes vaginal flora, also if you have a lot of sugar in your diet this can increase risks.
