Most any kind that aren't too bitter nor too coarse. They will eat fresh grass, grass dried as hay, grass chopped up and allowed to ferment as silage, or grass baled up and allowed to ferment as baleage.

Depends where the cows are located. Some grass species are too bitter like Meadow Foxtail, or too coarse like Russian Wild Rye or Rough Fescue. If given a choice, cows will choose the sweetest, tenderest, softest grasses over grasses that are coarse, bitter, and tough. But if they are "forced" to, they will eat any type of grass, regardless of taste or texture.

Pretty well all types of grasses. Brome, Fescue, Bluegrass, Orchard grass, and Wheatgrass are just a few of the many types of grasses that are grown for cattle to graze and are grown to be used as hay.

Texas Longhorns eat the same types and species of grass that other cattle that are not TL's eat. Breed does not make a difference as to what types/species of grasses that a bovine can, likes to or has to eat.

Cattle love grasses that taste good; in other words, not bitter, nor too stemmy, nor too coarse. A cow will pick out the tastiest, tenderest leaves of grasses before she will eat the coarser grasses. The type of grasses cows will often go for are fescue, orchard grass, meadow brome, smooth brome and timothy, all in the vegetative stages (where the seedy head has not emerged yet).

Any type that grows in your area is good for cows. At least any type of grass that cows are willing to eat. There are some types of grass that are too coarse in texture, too saline or too bitter for cows to eat. For instance, in Western Canada, cows will refuse to eat Meadow Foxtail grass because of the bitter taste. Some varieties of Reed Canary grass are also too bitter for cows to want to touch. Salt grass like that grown in the south-eastern US may be good for cows if they like it, but since it is quite high in salinity that means they will be drinking more water.

Please visit your local county extension agent, government agricultural office or agricultural extension office offered by a local college or university for more information on what grass is best for you to grow for your area.
