Seismology is a branch of geophysics. Seismologists will usually therefore have an undergraduate degree in either mathematics, physics or where available geophysics. Typically they will also have a post graduate qualification as well.
As such seismologists will study a significant amount of mathematics and physics in their university courses, as well as modules from the Earth Sciences relating to the composition and structure of the earth.
