== == D-Day, the Sixth of June 1944, was the beginning of the end for Nazi dominated Germany, whether Hitler realized it or not (and in fact at the time he did not). There was still almost a year of hard fighting ahead for the Allies, but D-Day opened the second front that forced Hitler to fight on two fronts, east and west, and ultimately the Germans couldn't keep it up. By April of 1945 Nazi Germany had been squeezed into a little hourglass shape between the Red Army advancing from the east and the Western Allies advancing from the west. Hitler committed suicide in his bunker in Berlin on April 30, 1945, and eight days later the Germans unconditionally surrendered. After almost six years of the worst fighting the world had ever known, the war in Europe was over .

Churchill did not say this about D-Day (he said it in 1942), but the quote seems to apply anyway: " ... this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning."

What was d-day and why does it play such a part in the allies fate?

D DAY was the day the allies went to recapture france the battle following Dieppe In World War 2 in comparisson to WW1 in a sense dieppe was like the battle of the sommes and dday was like the battle of vimy ridge. Dieppe was a failure and the lessons learned lead to the success of Dday. Dday played an important part in the allies fate because the allies recaptured france who had fell to russia only 6 weeks into war. this marked the last battle in europe in ww2.

How did D DAY effect the outcome of world war 2?
