Cotton gin
musket
In 1798, Eli Whitney invented a way to manufacture muskets by machine so that the parts were interchangeable. Ironically, it was as a manufacturer of muskets that Whitney finally became rich.
Eli Whitney made the cotton gin and came up with the idea of interchangeable parts. He was most famous for inventing the cotton gin, a machine that separated cotton seeds from the cotton fibers. It was revolutionary because now slaves didn't have to rip up their hands to remove the seeds and it also sped up the process of processing cotton a lot.
