Take it to a shop. It's to hard to do in your driveway unless you've done it before. I am actually having to take my 99 avenger to firestone tomorrow to have water pump replaced.
87 octane gasoline.
Dodge Avenger has a problem with this. You need to take off the oil pan because the oil thicken's in the pan. Clean it and put it back on and this should to the trick.
This is not a job you want to undertake if you are asking this question. Best if you take it to a shop.

Take off the 3 bolts that hold it in, get it out, its a bit tricky so use some force, then once you get it out, take the caps off and your there.
The average time it takes to change the water pump on a 1998 Dodge Avenger is six to ten hours.
A 1998 Dodge Avenger requires 4.0 quarts of oil (this applies to both the 2.0L 4-cyl and the 2.5L V6)
You have to take off your front Save bumper.
Where is the thermostat on a 1999 dodge 2500 where the top radiator hose meets the engine. You will have to remove 3 small bolts. take about 3 minutes to change it.
I replaced the starter on my 96' Avenger. It is located right beside the oil filter. To remove the starter I had to take off the oil filter and the part connecting the oil filter to the car.
If empty it will hold almost 9 quarts.
