Britain intercepted it and shared new to the US. It was uncertain if it was actually true or if Britain made it up to get the US into the war, but that was one event.

∙ 12y agoThe effects that brought the U.S. into the Great War were the sinking of the RMS Lousitania, and then the exerted telegram that Germany sent to Mexico. The telegram said that if Mexico joined the war on their side, they would give them back the land that the U.S. had taken from Mexico in 1847. Many believe that Britain made that telegram to get the U.S. to join the Allied Powers.
