It's actually a great story... the locusts were devouring everything, and the pioneers prayed for help, and the seagulls came and ate them all. That's why they have a Seagull monument in the middle of Salt Lake to this day.
Death Valley got its name during 1849 - 1850. A group of pioneers were lost during the winter, and everyone assumed that they died in the valley.
