There is no magic exercise that will make you lose weight faster. Lunges are great, and different exercises are better for developing different muscle groups, and toning your body, but for general weight loss the idea is to get your heart rate up for a period of time, so that you can burn more calories. Whatever exercise you do that accomplishes this doesn't really matter that much (as long as you aren't harming yourself).
Consistency is more important than the chosen exercise, and if you pair that with smaller portions and healthier choices, you are likely to feel better about yourself and move closer to your weight goals.
Any moderate exercise will cause you to burn calories. (Intense exercise is less optimal because it may damage your joints.) However, an even more important consideration is that of what you're eating. Try losing the junk food, drinking water rather than soda, and having whole-grain foods along with your legumes, protein, vegetables, etc.

In the Feb 2017 issue of Scientific American, a question like this was answered. The researchers looked at three groups of people called the Hadza and determined the number of calories used in daily activities. The researchers used water enriched with two isotopes that analyze how many calories are used each day.
They chose this small tribe of hunter-gatherers who still live in southwestern Africa. Their entire day is spent in finding food. The men in hunting animals of one sort or another, the women in finding berries and starchy roots and the children usually help in finding and bringing water back to camp.
They then chose a group of working adults from the US and Europe, and the last group was what we call couch potatoes.
The results that came back from the lab were fantastic; the Hadza men burned 2,600 calories a day and the women 1,900 calories. This result is nearly the same as the working adults in Europe and the US and only 200 more than the couch potatoes.
This all points to obesity as a disease of gluttony rather than sloth. We all know that going to the gym seems to be ineffective. But we still have to exercise to stay healthy, and we must diet to take care of the extra pounds.
We have evolved to be fat (sorry about that), and even the lean Hadza carry twice as much fat as chimps. We store fat because of our faster metabolism and as a buffer to live through lean times. Our larger and more active brains are a significant part of our faster metabolism.
