The Missouri Compromise of 1850 created the state of Missouri. It resolved much of the tension that had existed between pro and anti slavery factions in the country. Missouri was admitted as a slave state and California was admitted as a free state keeping the balance of slave and free states.
The Missouri Compromise of 1820
The area that was to become the state of Missouri had slaves. Various proposed legislation put restrictions on Missouri with respect to slavery in order for it to become a state. Eventually, the state was allowed to be admitted as a slave state.
The legislation established the federal-state relationship that determined that federal help would be channeled through the states, which were responsible for implementation of heavy construction projects.
The Missouri Compromise of 1820 allowed Maine to be admitted to the Union as a slave state. This was to counter balance having Missouri enter the Union as a slave state. The Missouri Compromise of 1820 allowed Maine to enter the US as a free state and allow Missouri to enter as a slave state.
