Well, Belva Lockwood, a lawyer and a feminist, was the first. She was one of the first female lawyers to be allowed to plead cases before the Supreme Court. And Shirley Chisholm of New York was the second. I worked on her campaign many years ago when I lived in NY. She was a wonderful person. I assume Belva was too, but she was waaaay before my time!
