Yes, they're very high in the purines that bring on an attack. I hated to hear that as much as I hated hearing I can eat very few shrimps as well. They had brought on many an attack before I was diagnosed with gout. There is all sorts of info about this , just google gout. They have sites with the actual purine count of each food you want to know about. Good luck!
Generally, drinking plenty of fluids is one of the best things you can do when you have gout, avoiding alcoholic beverages is also highly recommended. The Mayo clinic has a detailed list of food that are good to eat, and foods to avoid for those who have gout: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/gout-diet/MY01137
Gout
* Exercise regulary. * Healthy diet (you can eat "junk foods" if you wish but it is not recommended that you eat a lot of "junk food" as it is considered unhealthy). * Avoid smoking. * Avoid alcohol. * Avoid drugs.
A person who has gout can eat cornmeal without any issues. They can eat as much as they want, in moderation of course. Foods to avoid are sugar and fatty foods that can cause a buildup of uric acid which contributes to gout.
yes
Eat fresh food, avoid preserved food
Oatmeal is high in protein which breaks down into purines - which causes the gout attack. However, oatmeal is also high in fiber which helps speed your body in processing food. So, in short, these two elements counter each other. I've suffered from gout almost 20 years and I eat oatmeal several times per week and have may be one attack a year. I also take a natural supplement and avoid the other high purine foods.
