The Europeans brought the grains which are now grown in Australia (e.g. wheat, barley) as well as all fruits, vegetables and nuts (except for Macadamia nuts). They brought the concept of cooked foods such as breads and biscuits.
The German immigrants had a variety of Prussian, Wendish and other subcultural influences from their homeland. They brought their own recipes with them from Germany, and these recipes, together with cooking traditions, were modified according to what was available and the local conditions in the Barossa Valley of South Australia, where they initially settled. There were different types of sausage: Mettwurst, Blutwurst, Leberwurst, Weißwurst, for example. Streuselkuchen, or just kuchen - "German cake" or "crumble-top cake" (the streusel is the crumble on top) was popular. Honey biscuits were also popular, especially at Christmas time. For the farming community, whatever fresh produce they didn't eat immediately was preserved via fermenting, smoking, salting and drying by traditional methods brought from Germany.
In South Australia, they have the same foods as they have in the rest of Australia. See the related question for more details. Because of South Australia's strong German foundation and tradition, there are many unique German foods available there which are less common elsewhere in Australia. These include Mettwurst and other wursts, German pastries and cakes such as kuchen.
