The ancient Romans consumed a fairly well rounded diet. The foods that they did not eat were foods such as tomatoes, yams, and potatoes. These were New World foods and the Romans never knew about them.

No they ate with a buffalo horn. They drank liquid with a duck's face.
Poor Romans tended to eat cereal grains (such as porridge and bread) at all meals.
They put it in their mouths, chewed and swallowed just as we do. However they did not have the utensils for eating that we have. Most of their foods were cut into small pieces that were easy to pick up with the fingers. Spoons were used for soups and there was always a bowl of water and a napkin for rinsing and drying the fingers available.
