BTW the coin is made of copper-nickel, not silver. Any that you find in change are only worth $1.
The coin itself is round like other US Coins. It was supposed to be an UNDECAGON, i.e. an 11-sided coin but the Mint decided it was too hard to manufacture so the design was modified to have an undecagon inscribed within the circle.
It should be noted that many other countries including Canada and the UK had been minting multi-sided coins for decades without difficulty.
