The Federalists were all for a strong central government. Federalist came from federalism which by definition is the division of power between a central government and smaller entities (states). However, they did not mean only power to the President. They actually gave the President relatively small powers, and the other two branches much more power. Congress had the most power, mainly because they were congressmen.
