Prior to the extinction of mammoths and other huge game animals, people in Europe, northern Asia, and North America all depended on these animals for food. When they died out, we switched our attention to smaller game, such as deer and pigs, even rabbits and birds, and probably people also did more gathering of plant foods, such as seeds and berries.
Soon after the extinction of the big game animals, a few cultures began to farm, which led to modern civilization.
