The Japanese felt that the path to long term economic stability lay in forcibly uniting the nations of East Asia.

The "Great Depression" of the 1930's meant NO JOBS! WW2 created nothing but jobs (Military jobs, factory workers, etc.). There were so many jobs, women had to be recruited to do them.
