Salem Commercial School was originally located in Salem, Massachusetts. It was a two year School of Business founded in 1895 and accredited in Massachusetts. It offered secretarial and general business courses. In the early 1980s, the name had been changed to TechAge
Business Schools. A new owner later changed it back to the more well known and established name, Salem Commercial School. After many years in Salem, it moved to Lynn where it took over the building and students of the Lynn campus of Andover
Institute of Business.
Unfortunately, the next year the Federal government ended the military draft system affecting the enrollment of many male students who were going to school after high school, it turns out, primarily to avoid the draft. In addition, the community college system was growing and expanding at that time offering many similar courses at a significantly lower cost. SCS and several other schools of business and larger accredited
Business Colleges were not able to compete financially and were forced to close
. The records of the school were kept for many years and ultimately destroyed.
