Nothing happened to Cardinal Pole, but I believe that's because he kept out of Henry's way and lived abroad until Henry was dead! Pole became a servant of the Pope and was a member of the organising committee of the Council of Trent 1546/64! This Latin Council organised what became a reactionary council that is responsible for what John Evelyn's Diary refered to as ',their New Trent Religion,'.This refered to what some people considered a coup at the Council elevating the papacy well above its station and boosting the Suburbicarian Roman Church. After that when Queen Mary became Head of the Church, and endevoured to align the Anglican Church with the New Trent set up ,Cardinal Pole was made Archbishop of Canturbury. He did the business smoothly but the pope distrusted him and they became estranged and it lookd at one time as though the cardinal would be called ,'to Rome'! However, both the Queen and her cousin Pole became ill and died a few hours of each other in`1558!
