The USSR bankrolled the Vietnam War for the North. They were North Vietnam's main supplier of weapons (everything from AK-47s to main-battle tanks and antiaircraft missiles), food, logistics (ammunition, vehicle parts, etc.), and fuel. Without the Soviet Union North Vietnam could not have mounted a major insurgency in South Vietnam, let alone four outright over the boarder invasions (1965, 1968, 1972 and 1975). Soviet troops did not infiltrate into South Vietnam, but they did man anti-aircraft SAM missile sites and fly MiG fighters against Americans. They helped to keep North Vietnam's infrastructure running during the bombing attacks. They were as involved with North Vietnam as the US was with South Vietnam. Yes, the USSR was involved in the Vietnam War.
