What happened white smoke from tailpipe stopped after few days sweet smell no engine problems coolant oil levels fine white smoke lasted a week spark splugs maybe 185000miles never changed them?
At some point coolant was getting into a cylinder. The sweet smell is antifreeze. The hole, probably in a head gasket was small enough that particles in the cooling system plugged it or as the motor heated up the head expanded enough to seal the hole. Doubtful this will last. At some point it should start smoking again. I have had good luck with copper based sealant when the coolant is going out the exhaust. If the radiator is being pressurized by exhaust then this will not help.

The engine is burning coolant caused from a blown head gasket or cracked head if you are loosing coolant. If you have a turbo charger the seal can go out and cause a Lot of smoke from burning oil..
What does it mean to have white smoke coming out the tailpipe black clumpy particles on oil level stick?
Answer . \nyou may have a blown head gasket. if you keep driving on a car with A BLOWN HEAD GASKET it may permanently damage your engine (especially if you have aluminum heads-they'll worp). if the heads are shot, it's all over. you need to take it to a shop and have it looked at. if that is the …problem and they can replace the gaskets without damage to the heads, it won't be cheap. it's a tough job. White smoke comes out during idle after gas peddle is pushed quickly and car goes back to idle does not smell like burnt oil just rich smell will stop after a few min is engine loading up?
Answer . While an engine is cold, water vapor condenses and comes out the exhaust pipe as white vapor on a cold day. After the engine warms up, the exhaust pipe is hotter allowing the exhaust gasses to be hotter as they come out the tailpipe. When that occurs, the water vapor dissipates long befo…re it can condense. Don't worry about it if it's just white vapor that goes away after the engine warms up. It's a normal product of the combustion of gasoline. On the other hand, if the smoke is grey and smells like oil, it can be an indicator of a problem.. The oil smoke smell is in all probability the valve stem seals or the oil drain ports in the heads are stopping up. ( Full Answer )

Why would white smoke come from catalytic converter but not engine or tailpipe Oil not milky and car does not use antifreeze?
\nI just filled my tank up with Premium Gasoline at Sunoco. I was almost empty and the highest octane pump sputtered and stopped at 12 gallons. I knew I needed more for a fill up so I finished up with 4 gallons of the next grade lower. I drove away, and about a mile down the road my car started l…osing power, sputtering, and jerking. I turned around and headed back to the station and just made it when my truck, a 1992 Ford Ranger, died. (It is in good shape with 130,00 miles and a recent computer diagnosis, lube, and compression test just 2 months prior). The temp gauge showed normal but there was a burning smell and white smoke coming from the catalytic converter. The mechanic suspected it was on fire. I suspected it was water in the gas that had not "ignited" and was now running through my exhaust and was sending off white steam. My truck wouldn't restart so I've left it there and am waiting to hear back. I've had bad gas twice before from a different station and my car lost power but never shut down like this. For both these episodes I ran STP through the tank for several fill-ups afterwards and performance returned to normal. This may not be an answer, but an educated observation from a former mechanic. What is wrong with your car if there is white smoke coming from the tailpipe and the oil is not milky on the dipstick?
White smoke from the exhaust pipe indicates that the engine is allowing water into the cylinders. The water then boils in the cylinder and exits the engine as steam (white smoke). This could be be from the inlet manifold (especially if the engine is a V), it could be a head gasket (leak between the …water jacket & the cylinder). Or worst it could be a cracked cylinder head. Or, you're burning oil and you need an oil change. ( Full Answer )
There are two kinds of 'white-smoke'. If it dissipates quickly into the air, its just steam (water) no big deal if it goes away in a bit. The second is the kind that hangs in the air and leaves a cloud behind the car. That's OIL. That's expensive!!
Answer . \nWhite smoke from the exhaust is a symptom of coolant entering the combustion chamber. This is normally caused by a blown head gasket or a cracked head. Stop driving the car immediately as severe engine damage will occur if you continue to run this engine. I have no idea what you mean …by the term "slug". ( Full Answer )
dripping from tailpipe \noil getting by the rings causes white smoke and oil dripping out of the tailpipe.
White smoke is a sign that coolant is entering the combustion chamber. This is commonly caused by a cracked head or blown head gasket or both. This is a very serious condition that requires you STOP running this engine immediately. Severe engine damage will occur if you continue to operate this engi…ne. The head must be removed to repair this problem. If you are going to drive it somewhere for repair that is not over a couple of miles, change the oil/filter and drive it for repair. If it is over a couple of miles have it towed in for repair. If you have been driving the car in this condition for very long, then you probably have done severe damage to the engine and it will require a major overhaul. Once it is opened up a determination can be made as to how bad the damage is. ( Full Answer )
Answer . white smoke from coolant usually indicates oil in coolant, this usually means a blown headgasket
Engine overheated shut down - results idles low engine is missing no water in oil or white smoke or water in tailpipe?
Check for functioning water pump - no water circulating inside the engine can cause an overheat condition. Check the water thermostat - a closed valve (defective) will not allow hot water to circulate out of the engine into the radiator which cools it before returning it to the engine block. …Do a compression test. It may have "tuliped" some valves from overheating. ( Full Answer )
that means that you have a blown head gasket or it is on the verge of blowing. alot of moy to fix if it goes. it is leaking antifreeze into the cylinders and burning it causing your car tto smoke white.
More than likely, the white smoke is steam - usually resulting from condensation, blown head gasket, or cracked cylinder head. A blown gasket or cracked head can be detected with a compression check. Hope it's just condensation from the tail pipe, which is normal in the early morning.
Only when cold? Condensation burning off Normal condition. When at normal operating temperature - could be a leaking head gasket. Run engine to normal operating temperature - remove engine oil dipstick and let a drop fall on hot engine part - oil will smoke coolant will sizzle
Why does a car produce white smoke under the hood after the engine is off and the hood is a little hot and the oil has just been changed a few days ago but the temperature gauge is normal?
If this wasn't a problem prior to your oil change, I would venture to say that the oil change technician accidently spilled oil which then made it's way down to engine parts and manifold. It simply gets hot while the engine runs and produces smoke as a result. It will eventually go away as the oil b…urns off. It is also producing a small amount of smoke while your engine is running, but the combination of the air movement while the car is moving, along with the engine fan, dissapates the smoke below the car so that it is not noticeable until you stop the engine. If you are getting white or grey smoke out of the tailpipe , especially when the. engine is warmed up , you have coolant getting into an engine cylinder from a bad. head gasket or warped or cracked cylinder head
It's burning oil, does this happen when you first start it or does it do it all the time ? if only when you first start it, you could have bad valve guide seals and then they need to be replaced, if it does it all the time the engine is running it may be time to rebuild the engine.
On a 1994 crown Victoria the engine light is on it burns a lot of oil and white smoke comes out of the tailpipe when starting from a stop?
Does not sound good. Most likely the rings are bad, and the head gaskets are gone. Could have more internal damage. Don't spend on it.
What could be causing white or gray smoke not steam to be coming from your exhaust it smells burnt not sweet compression is fine and no oil in water or water in oil?
Well white smoke usually means your burning off coolant. It can be caused by a torn head gasket or intake gasket and also by a cracked head or a cracked intake. But if it doesn't smell sweet, and you don't have compression problems, it probably isn't coolant. Supposedly oil can also cause white exha…ust smoke and one way is if the oil is overfilled. Here were some other comments... http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_can_cause_white_smoke_from_the_exhaust ( Full Answer )
Most often that indicates the presence of water or coolant in the combustion chambers. Common causes are head gasket leaks, intake gasket leaks, warped head/s or warped intake.
The white smoke coming out of a tailpipe is called steam. It is caused by water leaking into a cylinder. It can be caused from a blown head gasket letting water from your cooling system leak into a cylinder. When the gasoline and air burn, it makes the water in the cylinder turn to steam. The steam …goes out your tailpipe with your exhaust gases. If you do not keep your radiator full, you will blow your engine. If you do not get it fixed, It will ruin your lubrication system and ruin your engine. Hopefully, you are in a position to make car payments.. Can also be moisture trapped in the exhaust system if you make too many short trips and never get the entire system up to temperature.. Blueish colored smoke would be buring oil, caused by failed seals or rings. Black or brown smoke is gasoline. caused by too rich a mixture. ( Full Answer )
engine coolant getting into an engine cylinder from a bad head gasket , cracked or. warped head
The "white smoke" you see coming out of the tail pipe is steam. It is a pretty common occurrence in the winter or early in the mornings when you first start your vehicle. If your "white smoke" does not disappear after a few minutes or after driving a few miles, you may have a blown head gasket (or w…orse, a cracked cylinder head) that is allowing coolant to get into the exhaust system. A compression check on the cylinder head will help detect/determine if the steam is due to a problem there. ( Full Answer )
I would say no. It sounds like water is entering the combustion chamber from maybe a bad head gasket.
What causes Chevy truck to blow white smoke out the tailpipe and engine misses and oil is over full and coolant level is low?
White smoke is usually do to water in your system. That happens when you blow a head gasket, or have a cracked head. If your oil level is high check your oil for water, if so that's were your coolant is going. All in all you have a blown head gasket.
Get a oil change You may have a bad head gasket, or a cracked head, or both.
You most likely overfilled with too much oil. That burning smell is your burning oil. White smoke can be indicative of many things depending of where it is emitting from, but the fact that this only happened after your recent oil change almost certainly points to overfilling.
1988 park avenue runs rich smell of gas has good spark white smoke out tailpipe no anti-freeze in oil?
White smoke indicates coolant burning, usually accompanied by a sweet smell. It is possible to have a blown gasket and have no coolant in the oil, the leak is probably only present while the coolant system is under pressure and all of it is being burned in combustion.
Bad spark plugs and leads can commonly make the engine feel like its 'hesitating' or skipping a beat, often worsening in the higher rev range. However it is not the cause of white smoke. White smoke is typically associated with coolant getting into the combustion chamber. The most common cause of t…his is a cracked head gasket, which you will need to replace in order to rectify the white smoke. ( Full Answer )
How do you know if a diesel engine is burning oil it has been smoking since I had the oil changed the smoke is white but smells like burnt fuel?
The main part of diesel fuel is kerosene, which produces thick black smoke, and gives that smell that is commonly associated with diesel. most likely if it is white smoke, it is antifreeze, if it has a blue tint to it, it is oil. the smell of burnt diesel is rather strong so it could cancel the burn…t oil smell, or on the other hand it could be coolant, because burned coolant doesn't have a strong smell. I would check your coolant and oil levels, and check your coolant for having oil in it. ( Full Answer )

You have a blown head gasket or cracked head. STOP driving this vehicle immediately or you will destroy the engine. You must have this repaired.
White smoke from the exhaust is a sign of coolant entering the combustion chamber. You are smelling gasoline because the coolant is mixing with the fuel in the combustion chamber of one or more cylinders and causing a misfire. The excess fuel is going out the tailpipe with the coolant as white smoke…. Sorry to say but you have a blown head gasket, cracked head, or intake manifold gasket leak. STOP driving this vehicle until you can have this repaired. Serious engine damage will occur if you continue to drive this car. Have it repaired ASAP. ( Full Answer )
If it is white, Then it is not oil. It is engine coolant / Antifreeze burning / leaking into the combustion chamber. You either have got it to hot and it blowed a head gasket are even have warped the head. You need to pressure test the coolant system to make sure.
I'm not a mechanic / technician but if the engine is warmed up it sounds like you are getting engine coolant into an engine cylinder ( head gasket , warped head from overheating the engine etcetera , there are probably other reasons , anybody else ? )
Will white smoke come out of tailpipe after going through flood waters Changed plugs oil and air filter Will it stop when it dries out?
Not knowing how deep it went or what type of vehicle you have it is hard to say. You may also have water in the transmission, transfer case, front and rear differentials. I would guess if you only got water into the exhaust system, a good 20 mile highway drive should dry out the exhaust system.
Does the car vibrating at stop lights have anything to do with the white smoke coming out of tailpipe?
White smoke coming from the exhaust is a symptom of coolant entering the combustion chamber. This will cause the engine to miss and vibrate. More than likely your have a blown head gasket. You must STOP driving this car until this is repaired. Severe engine damage will occur if you continue to run… this engine. ( Full Answer )
Yes. It also depending on what kind of stop leak and how much is used.
Why would white smoke come out of my tailpipe after changing the valve cover gasket on my 95 Nissan 200sx it only does it on highways and has also started missing never had these problems b4?
White smoke from the exhaust is a symptom of coolant entering the combustion chamber. Most often caused by a cracked or warped head or blown head gasket. Stop driving this vehicle until you have this repaired or you will destroy the engine.
What does it mean when you start your car amd thick white smoke comes out and tons of coolant comes out your muffler plus when you remove the spark plugs there is a sweet smell?
It means you positively have a blown head gasket, cracked head, or both. Stop driving this car immediately or you will destroy the engine. There is only one permanent fix and that is to remove the head, have it inspected, and replace the head gasket with a new one. The head may or may not need rep…lacing. A machine shop will verify the condition of the head. If you have to take this car to a shop that is not within a couple miles of your home, I recommend you have it towed to the shop. The more you run this engine the more damage you will have. ( Full Answer )
Check the oil level, if you put to much oil in it can cause smoke. If that is the case then you have to drain some out untill you have the right level then let the truck idle untill it burns the oil out of the cylinders. Or you may have blown head gaskets
Why won't my 1999 Ford Escort SE hold oil and why is white smoke coming out of tailpipe and engine is overheating?
This applies to all internal combustion water cooled engines - Head Gasket / Head Failure Modes / symptoms - White smoke coming out of tailpipe means that coolant es being drawn into the combustion chamber (cylinder), mixed with fuel and ignited. The white is steam/water vapor. Brown opaque and frot…hy oil on dipstick / oil drain pan - Coolant (which is under low pressure (15 psi) in the coolant system) is being forced into the lubricant channels. These failures are typically either a failed Head gasket (between the block and the head) $$ or a crack in the head $$$. Cracked blocks are rare. Another failure mode causes you to lose coolant, due to over pressurization of the coolant system,. The over pressure is exhaust gas forced into the coolant system. Characteristic of this mode are hard radiator hoses - like a pumped up bike tire. DIY assessment - with time and space, a good selection of mechanics tools (3/8 and 1/2 in. socket sets, torque wrench, crescent/box wrenches. mallets and wedges, an inexperienced, but diligent individual can successfully remove and re-install a head. Head inspection needs to be done by machinists who have the machines to plane the face so its FLAT, and check for cracks between valves and between cylinder tops. In the course of this project you should also change your timing belt and water pump if they are going to be due. Get the book, read the instructions, look on line, and so forth. It helps to have a friendly experienced person to call as needed. A certain deftness with stuck fasteners is important. Patience, penetrant (I keep Liquid Wrench, PB BLaster, Deep Creep and Sea Foam rust penetrant products) and effort consistent with the size of bolt or fastener is critical, otherwise you'll also learn to drill holes in tight places, and use an extractor set. No there's nothing you can put it to stop it what you need to do is repair it. The white smoke from your exhaust is caused by a blown head gasket. You must replace the head gasket. Stop driving this car until this is repaired or you will destroy the engine.
There could be many problems related to smelling gas and seeing white smoke from your tailpipe. Some suggestions would be the head gasket. If the smoke has a blue tint to it, it may be oil related. If your car has a turbo, it may be the turbo needing to be replaced. To be sure, you can have a mechan…ic do a diagnostic on it. ( Full Answer )
9 times out of 10 it's the head gasket on an aluminum engine, usually because of warpage due to overheating. You will have to pull the head(s) involved and replace gasket. A machine shop will have to check cylinder head to see if it needs milled to straighten mating surface. If overheating caused it…, will have to fix whatever the problem is in cooling system as well. Check fluid level and se if unusually low and oil for signs of water in it. ( Full Answer )
What is diff oil and if a car was stored for 5 years and on starting engine there was white smoke from exhaust for how long this white smoke is expected to last?
Look at your axle. There's a slightly pumpkin shaped fitting on theaxle. That's your differential carrier. The differential is insideof that, and it's what allows your wheels to rotate at differentspeeds when you make a turn or round a corner. The differentialfluid goes into that. You'll probably ha…ve to remove the back coveroff the differential carrier in order to drain the old fluid. You'll also have to scrape off the old gasket and replace it with anew gasket and RTV sealant. If it's been sitting for five years, you should change that fluid, or have a shop do it. The diff oil isprobably no good anymore, and will not properly lubricate thepinions and ring gear, and will cause it to wear prematurely. Ifyou're unsure of how to do this, a Chiltons or Haynes manual foryour vehicle would be a good purchase. ( Full Answer )
