Lie down for an hour and relax. Don't do any activities even if you feel better. Make sure you feel better for good or you'll make yourself even more sick. Place a cool moist washrag over your forehead and watch tv and just relax. Breathe slowly and evenly, trying to keep your mind off of the pain. Listen to some music if you get sleepy. Enjoy a nice Ginger Beer/Ale - The ginger helps calm down the stomach! Sip a glass of iced water slowly or warm/hot water. Eat crackers or toast. Sometimes stomach aches are caused by too much acid floating around in your stomach with nothing to do. These foods will help absorb the acid to make things a little more comfortable. Also, sipping a glass of water will help to dilute the acid in your stomach. Drinking milk can neutralize the acid in your stomach too, but be careful as too much of a thicker substance, such as milk, can cause the stomach ache to worsen. You may also just be hungry! Lie on your left side for 5 minutes on a comfortable couch or bed to see whether it will allow you to burp. This is because the stomach is on the left side of the body and the esophagus enters the stomach on the right. So, the bubbles of gas can rise to that entry point and make a burp possible. Loud noises that could start a headache will only worsen a stomach ache. Drinking black coffee tends to aid the digestive process. (sometimes it does the opposite though and can make the stomach ache worse) Try Carbonated Beverages such as Ginger Ale, carbonated mineral water , or tonic water (with quinine, it tastes good and it works!) always drinking dairy products, though if the stomach ache is being caused by not enough acid inside the stomach, it is a great idea to drink milk which is a base and neutralizes acid. Place an ice cube above, on, or below your belly button and lie down. This may numb the pain temporarily. Use a hot water bottle pressed to your abdomen, but be careful it's not so hot that it burns you. Try taking a warm bath and relaxing for a little bit in the tub. Sit down comfortably and bring your knees up to your chest and stay like that for a minute or two. When you stretch your legs out again, do so slowly.

If you are on your mestrual cycle, take a Midol, or similar medication. For general stomach aches, take a mild pain killer, such as Advil, Motrin, or Tylenol (your preference). Be sure not to take any medication on any empty stomach, it may make it worse.

If you don't have medication, use the restroom, and lie down for a while. It may be gas, or some other minute dilemma. If it keeps up, try to take some meds for it.

If you are ill, it is a good idea to see a doctor to make sure that the illness is not very serious even if you decide not to go to the hospital. Sometimes if you do not get checked by a professional it can lead to more serious damage and a harder time recovering.

Always check with you health-care team before making this kind of decision. Here's how I would handle it. If I had a serious stomach ache and I could reasonably determine a likely cause, I would NOT go immediately to the hospital. Did I have WAY too much of that triple spice and cheese anchovy pepperoni onion salami Pizza last night? or way too much of that cheese fondue, volcano-hot chili, or that leftover chicken that I THOUGHT might still be good? Way too much to drink, or way too much of that food that I know badly binds me? If something like this is in the picture, I would first try to rest and let it pass, or I would try some OTC remedy for gas, constipation or general pain. I might try an enema if the discomfort seems to be in the bowels. If NONE of the above is involved and the serious stomach pain seems to have come from nowhere, or if I have a known or past condition that might be acting up, I would definitely check with my doctor's office first (she/he or someone else at the practice may be available for a consult) and do as the office suggests, including going to an emergency room. ERs are a very expensive way to deliver care, and if not indicated, another first approach is in order. Of course, ERs are there for you, but prudently ruling things out will make things better for everyone, including you. If you can stand the analogy, think about the issue this way. You cannot find your custom made $75,000 Rolex Chronometer (that's 'watch' to us Timex wearers). Your neighbor visited earlier. Would your VERY FIRST move be to try to have your neighbor arrested, or to find an attorney who will help you sue your neighbor in court? Of course not. You later discover that your 2 year old needed something to use to bang pegs into his peg board. It was shiny, it was available... what the heck. But at least you don't have to clog the legal system, and if you have any sense you have insurance that will conver the watch.. er, chronometer.
