License tags are the property of the state which issued them. The repo company should return them to the DMV or motor vehicle bureau. Different rules in different states. In some states they stay with the car and in others they belong to the person they were issued to and in others they are returned to the state.

In Mississippi the plates remain with the car. You need to call the bank. They will give them to you most likely. File a stolen report and sue the lender in court.They do not have a right to your plates nor your personal propery.SUE THE BANK/LENDER NOT THE REPO MORON !!! There are legal requirements that all drivers be insured- as well as licensed and carrying proper registration documents- separate from the driver"s license and of course obligatory license plates.

In Connecticut we don't use the registration sticker on the license plates any more but when we did the sticker went on the rear license plate.
Not sure about other states, but in Georgia when you buy a tag for your vehicle that is YOUR tag, if you sell your car or it gets repo'd you can get the tag and trasfer it to another vehicle.
