If tissue lymphatics are blocked by a tumor or lymph nodes were excised to stop a tumor from metastasizing, the obstruction causes reduced lymphatic drainage, which leads to increased interstitial hydrostatic pressure, interstitial fluid volume, and eventually edema.

Is lymphedema an autoimmune disease?

No it is not an auto immune disease. It can be congenital due to poorly developed lymphatics, or it can be due to blocked or damaged lymphatics. One of the most common causes in India and Africa is Filariasis which causes blocked lymphatics, and can be treated with medication. It can also be seen in pelvic tumours, when the swelling causes pressure on the vessels and lymphatics. It is seen most commonly now after radical surgery when the lymph nodes are removed for malignant disease.

What happens to the cell during throat cancer?

Throat cancer refers to cancerous tumors that develop in your throat (pharynx), voice box (larynx) or tonsils. Cancerous tumors typically develop at the cellular level due to mutagens and carcinogens, causing mutations in DNA sequences that code for proteins that limit and monitor mitosis. This mutation leads to the lack of those proteins, causing uncontrollable mitotic divisions leading to the development of tumors.

Why do tumors grow so rapidly?

Tumors can grow rapidly due to a combination of factors. These factors include the cancer cells' ability to divide and proliferate at a faster rate than normal cells, the tumor's ability to recruit blood vessels to supply it with nutrients and oxygen, and the tumor's ability to evade the immune system's response. Additionally, tumors can also grow rapidly if they have acquired certain genetic mutations that promote cell growth and survival.
