Toggles the computer between insert and overwrite mode. Put your cursor between two letters in a word. When you are in INS mode, you will push the letters to the right as you type. When you are in OVR mode, you will type over the letters and replace them with the letters you type.
An insertion point is the flashing line which indicates where you will be typing. Therefore, the keys that would be pressed are the 'k' key, and the shift key.
Yes, if you're typing, enable the "Insert" function and go back in whatever you were typing and type more, your keys will overwrite what you had written beforehand. If this happens, simply tap the Insert key and the rest of what you were writing will simply be bumped.

The button 'Ctrl' pressed with the 'S' key will save a file or document.
When you are typing it will insert text by pushing any existing text over rather than replacing them which happens in overtype mode. You can turn Insert mode on by pressing the Insert key, and by pressing it again it will turn it off.
If you are talking about your office/typing software replacing the text you've typed instead of inserting new text at the location, then you may have accidentally pressed the 'insert' key on your keyboard. Pressing 'insert' again will turn this behavior on and off.
