just your emergency brakes won't work, but more importantly the levers inside the rear brake drums slack off scrubbing on the inside of the drums and over a period of time they will cut right thru the drums, .So get it fixed.
brake fluid line and antilock senor cable( the second one is really a cable that looks like a line).
I don't know about Silverado trucks but all of the emergency (parking) brakes I'm familiar with use the brake cable to "pull" and hold the brake against the drum (or disk), so if the cable breaks you simply cannot apply the emergency brake. That is, it is automatically released if the the cable breaks.
Hydrolic brakes with cable brake for parking breaks rear wheels only.
Lots of bizarre possibilities - but the one you should check out is: What if your hand brake cable is frozen, holding the hand breaks on? This will wear out your main breaks (or at least the rear ones) ... as well as lower your mileage.
If its broken, then the cable is released. IF the breaks are still sticking, then the rear brakes will have to be opened up and the mechanism freed up.
There is no brake cable on your bike
weel i guess my first question is why ? these cables usually do not need to be adjusted or replaced. In 10 years working on Kia's replaced one brake cable because some mechanic at a tire store got it pinched between the lift and the frame bottom. to answer your question get a REAL Kia cable, otherwise your in for some real fun. there is alot of threading from the brake consol to the back wheels.the consol has to be removed to access the emergency brake handle, undo the nut and count how many turns the adjuster nut has to it . then thread the cable thru the floorboard undoing cable clamps as you go. until you get to the junction connector, then you have to decide do i go all the way to the brake or stop at the junction connector.after that the cable is unhooked from the brake drums and removed. are you sure you want to do this ? just kidding, good luck if you tackle this project.
Really ain't no fixing a brake cable. Replace it with a new cable.
Shifter is blocked by a device attached to the brake pedal. If the brake pedal is not depressed it wont allow you to change out of park. There should also be a bypass button next to the shifter, in case the cable to the pedal breaks.
The emergency brake cable is held in place with swivel nuts on each end of the cable. Turn the swivel nuts to the left. The emergency brake cable will come off.
The throttle cable goes from the 'gas' pedal to the carburetor or throttle body to control the speed of the engine. On cars the brake cable goes to the emergency brake, on some motorcycles the brake cable goes to the brakes. (The main brakes for cars and some motorcycles are hydraulically operated, not by a cable.)
It's a design flaw in the door jamb switches. They need to be replaced. I have a 1995 Skylark that had the same problem. Also, there was a redesigns of the brake cable assembly. Don't be surprised if it breaks off from your parking brake any time soon. A design flaw that has a door jamb of switches. Also they need to be replaced recently. we also have a 1955 Skylark that had some problems. There was a redesigns of the brake cable assembly.
