you will no doubt short out the fusable link located near the starter solenoid. it is in one of the lines comming out of the positive side of the solenoid. it is an integral part of one of the wires and is designed to blow before any damage to the charging system can happen.

Next , remove the positive cable from the battery . Finally, remove the battery hold down . This is usually a long bolt and metal plate, or it may be a strap , and the battery should lift straight out of the storage compartment. Be careful not to tip the battery over, or make contact between the battery terminals. Installing the new battery is the reverse process. Make sure to install the positive cable before the negative . This helps to prevent grounding out the positive cable .
