You get a different atom. This happens to 238Uranium as it gives off alpha radiation (two protons and two neutrons). The Alpha particle is essentially a Helium nucleus. The substance remaining is no longer 238Uranium but has become 234Thorium.

The electric change of protons in the nucleus is the?

Protons have a positive charge, neutrons are neutral, and electrons have a negative charge.

What effect produced by changing the number of neutrons in the nucleus of an atom?

What differentiates one element from another (like Hydrogen from Helium) is the number of protons in the nucleus. When protons are added (as happens in nuclear fusion) or subtracted (nuclear fission), the element transmutes into another element. When the number of Protons are changed, both the Electrons and Neutron (numbers) will change too. Protons are paired with electrons. Protons + Electrons = Neutrons, thus reinforcing that both the Electrons and Neutrons will change when the number of Protons has.

Which particles that make up an atom are involved in nuclear reactions?

Protons, electrons, and neutrons are the subatomic particles that are involved in nuclear reactions.

What forms if the number of neutrons in an atom changes?

Nothing happens to the number of neutrons nor protons. it's just the electron number that changes. If an atom gains electrons, it increases and the ion is negative and vice versa. the number of neutrons or protons DOES NOT CHANGE.

Why is the atomic mass the same as the total number of protons and neutrons in the nucleus?

The neutrons and protons are in the nucleus which determines the element/isotope. The electrons however define the net charge (ie. positive if there are less electrons then protons and negative if more) and it can be changed more easily, than changing the amount of neutrons . Another reason is that electrons have a tiny mass compared to the protons and neutrons and it wouldn't change the mass number by all that much.

13 protons and 14 neutrons. The fact that its an ion doesn't change that ... only the number of electrons.

How many protons and neutrons and electrons does the element gold have?

In a regular sample of the element of gold, meaning no change done to it, then there will be 79 protons and 118 neutrons

Where arw protons and neutrons found?

Matter and change a small amount of matter in the universe. Matter has mass and volume and is made of atoms. (atoms have) protons neutrons and electrons. Protons neutrons and electrons are found in everything from (pen, book, bread, pillow case, etc.)

How many subatomic particles does krypton have?

Protons 36 Neutrons 48 (for the most stable isotope, Kr-84) Electrons 36

Is it true that the nucleus is an atomic particle that has no atomic change?

the nucleus is made of protons and neutrons together. the protons have a positive charge and the neutrons have no charge [electrons circle the nucleus and have a negative charge]

Consider the silicon 29 isotope How many protons and neutrons and electrons will it have?

All silicon atoms have 14 electrons and 14 protons. That is a rule that every silicon atom must follow. On the periodic table, the number next to the atom is the number of electrons/protons in an atom (silicon is the 14th element listed on the periodic table, hence the 14 electrons and 14 protons). The number "29" is the number of protons and neutrons together. This number can change with changing isotopes. So, if every silicon atom must have 14 protons, and 29 is the number of protons and neutrons together, so the number of neutrons must be 29 minus 14. Final: 14 protons 14 electrons 15 neutrons

How would the result of Thomsons experiment change if the beam were a stream of neutrons instead of a stream of electrons?

The number of protons and electrons would be diffrent
