Since Europe is composed of many ethnic groups, most of whom had experienced nationalism for quite some time, many of these ethnic groups obtained their own countries. Most of these national ethnic groups also have their own language (examples are English, Russian, German, Spanish, Polish, Ukrainian, Greek, Slovakian, Serbian, etc.).
As for the religious differences, all European countries are majority Christian (with the exception of Albania and Kosovo, who are majority Muslim [70% and 90% respectfully]). Almost all of Europe used to be Roman Catholic (if not, then they were Orthodox, another branch of Christianity that broke off much earlier). However in the 16th century, some Europeans thought this church was corrupt and wanted to branch off. This is known as the Protestant Reformation. Northern Europe became majority Protestant while Southern Europe remained majority Catholic. Protestantism has also branched off into many separate religions (examples are Anglicanism, Calvinism, Lutheranism, etc.).
Albania has been majority Muslim since Ottoman rule. Albanians have also migrated to Kosovo, in which they make the majority of the population. So this way, they have spread Islam to Kosovo. However, this is not the Islam you probably think of when you hear of Islam. This is a type of Euro-Islam, not a Middle-Eastern Islam. It is more modern and fair to both sexes and is open to more "opportunities" if you will.
Two important differences among the Slavs are their linguistic diversity, encompassing languages such as Russian, Polish, Czech, and Bulgarian, and their historical experiences, which have led to variations in culture, religion, and societal structures across different Slavic groups. Geographic location also plays a role in shaping differences among the Slavs, as those living in Eastern Europe have been influenced by different historical events and neighboring cultures compared to those in the Balkans or Western Europe.
Unity in diversity is a concept of "unity without uniformity and diversity without fragmentation" that shifts focus from unity based on a mere tolerance of physical, cultural, linguistic, social, religious, political, ideological and/or psychological differences towards a more complex unity based on an understanding that difference enriches human interactions. The concept of unity in diversity was used "in non-Western cultures such as indigenous peoples in North America and Taoist societies in 400-500 B.C. In premodern Western culture it has been implicit in the organic conceptions of the universe that have been manifest since the ancient Greek and Roman civilizations through medieval Europe and into the Romantic era."

Approximately one-third of the world's languages are spoken in Europe, making it one of the most linguistically diverse regions globally. Europe's linguistic diversity is a result of historical migrations, colonial legacies, and the presence of indigenous languages.

Some differences between Russia and Western Europe are that Russia is more Orthodox Christian and western Europe is more into Catholic religion. Russia has communism, but western Europe has democratic government. Other differences are that Russia has a strong military and loads of military weapons, but western Europe has none or less.
Religious tolerance in Western Europe.
1. Russia is further East than Western Europe. 2. It covers more time zones ( at a guess) 3. Western Europe is FAR better at hiding corruption and governmental influence via money than Russia.
