Ser Thomas More was an important thinker (as a philosopher, author, and lawyer) and figure at King Henry the VIII's court (as a councilor, and later Lord Chancellor).

He lived from February 7, 1478 to July 6, 1535 (late 15th to early 16th century). This covers the Tudor era (1485-1603), his life ending a little before the Elizabethan era (at the height of Queen Elizabeth's power, 1558-1603, which makes sense since he was executed for a series of snubs and later, treason, against King Henry; such as not attending the coronation of his new wife, Anne Boleyn, refusing to recognize Princess Elizabeth as King Henry's heir over his first daughter, Princess Mary, from his first wife, Queen Catherine, and denying Anne Boleyn's legitimacy as Queen of England, in favor of papal supremecy; the pope did not grant Henry dispensation, which was required in order to nullify his first marriage and free him to marry Anne Boleyn).
