It is tricky to change the clutch cable. There is a clip that holds it on the clutch pedal and it hooks over the clutch arm down by the bellhousing on the other end. The clutch arm is fairly easy to access and remove the cable from the engine compartment. The clutch pedal end took a little while. I had to undo the fuse box and let it hang to acces the pedal arm. The cable hooks on this end also, but has a little clip that holds it on the arm. Once the cable is unfastened from the arm, you can pull it out through the firewall. Installation went better than removal for me, a little adjusting after its in and youre all set! Good luck!

Under the front of the car to the right a bit is the clutch cable and arm. The cable runs away from you, from the adjustment nut on a threaded bolt. This extends through the clutch arm and on to the cable. Between the part where the cable stop is, and the clutch arm is a kind of ribbed PVC sheath. This has some of the cable running through it. So firstly pinch the sheath at the far end and pull towards the clutch arm, which is closer to you. You will see the nut on the rod slide towards you, moving the nut clear of the clutch arm. With your other hand, turn the nut clockwise 2,3, maybe four times and let go of the other hand on the PVC sheath and watch the nut slot itself back into the clutch arm. Then just try your car in forward and reverse to see if you have adjusted enough or too much. If so adjust again. This is a very easy job to do yourself. You don't usually even need tools to do it, unless the nut is stiff.

Remove cable assembly from bulkhead pulling thru engine compartment. Push new cable thru bulkhead and reconnect cable and return spring to pedal. Fit cable inner to clutch arm and reset thread to noted length. Back in car,measure distance from top of clutch pedal pad to rim of steering wheel,then depress clutch fully and remeasure.Difference should be 134 to 141mm on rhd car.Adjust at clutch arm to correct it. LHD is 129 to 130mm. When dimension is correct,refit retaining clip on clutch arm. Note Clutch pedal correctly set will be higher than brake and have no free play. Refit relay box and hydraulic res.

There isn't any linkage, it has a cable, check to see if the cable is loose. There is a U clip that holds the cable in place,if the U clip is in place and there isn't any slack in the cable, it could be your tranny. Is the clutch disengaging? If when you push the clutch in the engine can be turned over or the car can be pushed, it is not a problem with the clutch.

The clutch pedal is spring retrun and I assume that when you changed the clutch you had removed the adjustign screw and pivot from the cable. Ensure that the clutch pedal is in the raised position and that the clutch thow-out arm moves freely. If the arm does not move freely then the poblem is internal and you'll have to pull the transaxle again (hopefully not!) Feed the threaded end of the clutch cable through the throw-out arm, reattach the pivot and adjusting screw. until the pivot contacts the arm. Push the throw-out arm towards the front of the car adn adjust the knurled nut until there is a 3 mm gap between the pivot and the arm. Test the clutch by depressing the pedal and check that the cable is pull;ing the throw-out arm. Next start the car, select first gear and slowly release the clutch pedal until you feel the clutch enage, it should be about 2/3's the pedal travel off the floor before engagement. Good luckmalcolm

I have replaced the the clutch cable on my '95 200sx 1.6L and it was easy. To adjust the cable go to the end of the cable where it conects to the level looking clutch arm in the engine compartment and look at where the clutch cable connects to the lever. Securing the cable on the backside of the lever there is a washer and screw that you can tighten or loosen to engage the clutch without pushing it all the way to the floor or you can adjust the other way to get the opposite affect. After I installed my clutch cable I had to go back about a week later and adjust the clutch (tighten the cable) because it appeared the cable had stretch a little from brand new to broken in condition. That year has a cable clutch linkage from your clutch pedal to the transmission, and it tends to wear and STRETCH, causing the clutch to not be fully disengaged even though your clutch pedal is pushed all the way down to the floor. It is a design flaw as there is no cable-length-adjustment. SAAB came out with a TA that instructs mechanics to use TWO (instead of just one) spacer washers when replacing this cable, to help forestall how soon this happens. There is an aftermarket replacement cable that has an adjustment built in. I postponed replacing my cable for about 6 months by shimming where the cable attaches to the clutch arm: I cut a slot in a fender washer so I could slip it over the cable without taking the cable out. I bent the washer to match the curve of the clutch arm. I then inserted the washer between the clutch arm and the ball at the end of the cable, effectively shortening the cable by the thickness of the washer...but eventually you will need to replace the cable. If you use this fix and later feel it grinding the breaking of the cable is IMMINENT!

A way to tell is look at the enigine from the front, have a friend push the clutch in while you are looking at the top of the trans (below the area between the air box & engine) look for a cable attached to a metal arm it should move up when he pushes in the clutch, there's your cable.

Check and record the thread length of the old cable found sticking out of the adjuster block on the clutch arm. Remove the securing clip and remove cable from the arm.Inside the car,unhook the cable end from the pedal. Pull the cable out of the bulkhead from the engine side,push the new one in the same way and hook on to pedal.Make sure the cable follows the same routing as the old one,no tight bends no chafing.Connect up to clutch arm and set threads to saved measurement,this will be somewhere near right. Inside car,measure distance from steering wheel rim to pedal and note it.Then depress clutch fully and re-measure the steering wheel to pedal distance. The difference between the two measurements should be 126mm to 132mm.If not correct,adjust the cable adjuster on clutch arm a turn at a time and recheck. You may go the wrong way first time,it's a bit trial and error.NOTE When correctly set up,the brake pedal and clutch pedal will be not be parallel,the clutch pedal will sit a bit higher.Lastly,refit the securing clip to the cable on the clutch arm.
