In the United States, September 17 is Citizenship Day, also known as Constitution Day. It is the anniversary of the date on which the US Constitution was signed and approved in 1787. In 1940, Congress made "I am an American Day" as the third Sunday in May. In 1952, Harry Truman established Citizenship Day to replace the observance in May.
