Jerusalem is a Holy city in Judaism, Christianity & Islam.
The holy site of Islam is located in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. Specifically, the Kaaba is located there (it's a giant black cube). The Kaaba is the most sacred and holy site in Islam. When Muslims pray, wherever they are on the globe, they pray in a certain direction so that way they are facing the Kaaba. They once faced Al-Aqsa (another holy site in Islam) Jerusalem as the direction of prayer.
The Kaabah, Makkah is the direction of prayer for Muslims from anywhere throughout the world . They once faced Al-Aqsa (another holy site in Islam) Jerusalem as the direction of prayer.

Mecca is a city in Saudi Arabia that is considered the holiest city in Islam. It is the birthplace of the Prophet Muhammad, and the site of the Kaaba, the most sacred site in Islam. Mecca is central to the Islamic religion and is a destination for the Hajj pilgrimage.
Jerusalem (Hebrew: Yerushalayim) is the holiest city in Jewish tradition and has been so since the time of the Bible. Starting in about the sixteenth century, three other cities that were at different times centers of Jewish life in Palestine have become regarded as holy cities, and together with Jerusalem they are considered the four holy cities of Judiasm: Hebron (Chevron), Safed (Tzfat) and Tiberias (Tiveria). See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Four_Holy_Cities . Note that Jerusalem is also a holy city of both Christianity and Islam, and that Hebron is a holy site for Islam as well.
