If the Bolsheviks lost the revolution and Russia remained a republic then Russia would not have pulled out of the war. The Republic's ideology was socialism, communism is the radical form of socialism much like fascism is the extreme form of nationalism. If Russia became a socialist state then the Russians would have not suffered so much and wealth would be more equally distributed. Russian Republic would be the official name of the nation. The Eastern Front would still have been more active had Russia remained in the war. By this point Russia would have been able to defeat Germany as well as Austria-Hungary. If the US entered the war then it would be even more advantageous for the allies and the Central Powers would have been crushed totally. Now onto the Great Depression, it would have not affected Russia as they are not workers and laborers right? Well there is always a catch. Russia would have still gone into the depression but not as bad as any nation. Robust economic growth and high worker productivity could help boost the economy. Onto WW2 Russia would have been prepared as well. Russia would be allied with Britain and France as they are not communist. In our timeline the USSR proposed a military alliance with Britain and France against Nazi Germany which was rejected. Since Russia is more Democratic and not radically socialist then the alliance would have been agreed. So if Hitler attempted to invade Russia, there would not be so much casualties for the Russians as they would be better organized. So once again Russia would ally with the allied powers. Let's say that Russia defeats Germany with Britain and then joins the USA in the Pacific. its hard to tell if the Cold War would happen as it was not just a conflict of ideology but also control over resources. Even if Russia is democratic and socialist instead, the US and Russia would still probably compete in the Space Race and so on. Would China become communist? Hard to say. Maybe since Communism failed then maybe Socialism would be adopted instead by China, Korea and Vietnam. Into the 21st century its difficult to know how exactly the world would be but what I can say is that the Cold War would not have been so tense as in this timeline there is an absence of ideological radicalness (Communism).
It is JUST like my geography teacher stated, it would either be a democracy or would remain a monarchy
China was ruled by the so-called Communist Party after 1949, but it was not a Communist country. Communism means the abolition of the wages system and establishment of a classless society. China became state capitalist after 1949.
