Make sure you quit all running apps and then if it still doesn't work, restart your computer and then delete the items in trash.
It gets permanently deleted and wiped away from your computer memory.

As a Mac user, we know that the items we sent to Trash are still recoverable. Simply click 'pull back'. But if the Trash is emptied, use a Mac photo recovery software instead. And act as soon as possible before they are overwritten. Regards.
To empty the trash with Mac OS X click on the Trash icon in the dock and select Empty Trash from the menu that pops up; or, when on the Desktop, select Empty Trash from the Finder menu or the keyboard equivalent Command, Shift and BackSpace keys.
Click on the Miro icon (usually found in the Applications folder) and drag it to the Trash basket in the Dock, or right click on the icon and select Move to Trash from the menu, and then when you empty the Trash the application will be deleted.
Can any body tell me how to delete files premanently in Mac OS instead of moving them to Trash and then emptying it.There's no such shortcut on mac unfortunately. However, it can performed by writing an apple script. Check this forum....http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20071114065424440I used it before and it did work.
It depends what you want to do. On Macs, you have a forward delete (the delete you know from windows) and a backwards delete (backspace). If you want to forward delete, you can press Fn + Back delete. If you want to, for example, delete a file, then you press CMD + Back delete, which skips any warning messages and sends it straight to the trash (handy sometimes).
To delete all files of a program: -Go to Library -Look for any files with the program's name or developer's name in the /Library//Library/Preferences/ and the /Library/Application Support/ folders. -Move the files to the trash. -If the trash will not empty. Reboot and try again. However, the easiest way to delete any program on a Mac computer, is to go to the application folder and move the program to the trash. This will effectively delete the program, although some files will remain and add to the disk clutter. these can be fished out, as above. See related link.
To do it from a command line: Open a Terminal window and use the unix "rm" command. To do it with a GUI: Download and install the muCommander program (very similar to Windows Explorer, but for the Mac).
Click on the Trash basket icon to open the Trash window. Locate the iTunes icon and click on it and drag it back into the Applications folder.
