Vehicle Speed Sensor
If a 1992 Honda Civic's speedometer is erratic, the problem could be the speedometer cable. It could also be the speedometer sensor malfunctioning. Check both components carefully.
The contacts between the speedometer head and the wiring connector need to be cleaned. If that does not work get a used speedometer. It fixed mine.
Cable could be loose.
Have electronic vehicle speed sensor in transmission checked out. It will cause loss of speedometer function and set a fault code(check engine light).
Your speedometer might not be connected if it does not work. It might also have blown a fuse if it is an electronic speedometer or it could have a wire that is loose.
The problem is inside the speedo and has to go to a speedo shop to be repaired.
I had the same problem with a 1992 Park Avenue with the 3800 engine. I first replaced the electronic ignition but that did not fix the problem. I then replaced the crankshaft heat sensor. That fixed my problem.
If the speedometer in your Voyager is not working, you might have a problem with a disconnected cable or with the fuse to the display. You could also have an issue with a sensor.
I have a 94 buick century the speedometer doesn't work n it has a hard time shifting from 1st gear to 2nd gear it makes a funky noise. would like to find out what I can do Sounds to me the speed sensor is at fault.
The 1987 Celebrity uses an electronic speedometer. There is a VSS(vehicle speed sensor) on the trans-axle that could have failed. The speedometer itself may have failed, the ECM (engine control module "computer") may have failed or there could be wiring issues.
my directional lights and speedometer do not work could this be control mudule?
If the speedometer and the odometer are not working, I would suspect the VSS (vehicle speed sensor). If only the speedometer is not working I would suspect the instrument cluster has problems.
A 1991 dodge dynasty speedometer bouncing could be a sticking speedometer cable, or a bad drive gear. Check the cable first, and lubricate it to see if the problem stops.
You can try to knock on the dashboard area around the speedometer. Or you could resolder the PCB on the backside of your speedo. A very common problem on 406's You can try to knock on the dashboard area around the speedometer. Or you could resolder the PCB on the backside of your speedo. A very common problem on 406's
Check speed sensors first. does the speedometer work?
The speedometer needs to work in a vehicle for safety and informative reasons. The causes of it intermittently working could be the lack of electricity, or a problem with the sensor.Ê
What exactly seems to be the problem? Do you have a digital speedometer or analog speedometer? the problem most encountered with a bad speedo is the gear in the transmission tail cone housing. make sure it isn't stripped the other problem could be the speedo itself. If it's analog then somewhere in there it is stripped out. If it's a logic type then usually the pulse board is gone.
Call the dealer, and ask for the different kinds of speedometer gears, you'll be lucky if you can still get one. They Usually go by color and teeth count. If I remember right, they are the typical cause.
Having the speedometer jump and the engine stall in the 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo could be a problem with the idle and the transmission. The transmission slipping can cause the speedometer to jump.
The speedometer cable (which runs from the transmission to the dashboard) has snapped. This is a two-piece cable, and the one-piece cable in later Proteges will not work. I had the transmission replaced, and the cable could never be fit in properly. This is a mechanical speedometer, so you would have to change the entire speedometer part of the instrument panel to use a magnetic/electronic speedometer.
If both the speedometer and the odometer work on and off, I would blame the vehicle speed sensor. If only the speedometer is acting up, I would blame the cluster.
it depends on what it is doing, does it not work at all? or does it jump around? could be the plastic speedo gear in the transmission, or it could be your speedometer itself. i have had a problem with mine and i need to replace my speedometer, the back assembly has gone bad. it jumps around. email@example.com
It could be a problem with the speedometer assy, since the two are actually one unit. It could also be a speed sensor which is located in the transmission housing on the the right side output drive axle housing.
Thermostat is stuck open.
The speed sensor on the vehicle could be shot. My vehicle is currently experiencing the same problem. If the odometer doesn't work either, this is likely the problem. Depending on the age/make of the vehicle, could be difficult to find the component.
