Check the ignition switch itself, sounds like it may be the problem.
Turn on the dashboard lights, and start removing the fuses one by one. When the dashboard light turned off, that is the good fuse. If the dashboard fuse is burnt, start replacing the fuses one by one, and when the dashboard will light up that is the place of the burnt fuse.
Sounds like a very weak battery.
You most likely have a dead battery, or if the battery is fully charged maybe the electrical portion of the ignition switch could be faulty.
I had a similar problem with a Pontiac some years back. It was a bad dashboard ground. It may not be it, but I would start there.
I had hesitation when moving off from a cold start in my S60 year 2004. I was advised to turn the ignition key so that the dashboard lights up but not all the way so that youstart the engine. Wait until the lights on the dashboard go out (the engine symbol remains light). Then, without taking the ignition key back to the starting position (ie from the same position as you stopped previously),turn the ignition key to the nextpoint tostart the engine. Since following the above steps, I have had no problems with hesitation when moving off from a cold start.
check your battery. if your battery is Ok have your alternator and starter checked at a local Autozone or similar store
Turn on the ignition so that your dashboard lights come on but dont start the engine, press the locking button on the keyfob within 10 secs, locks will engage then release. Done.
Most likely your car battery is completley dead.
Replace the starter
check your fuses check ignition switch
ensure there is diesel in the car. Turn on ignition but don't start the engine yet. Watch dashboard and look for a small light (not ignition light) look for a heater plug light. When this goes off then turn ignition full turn and engine should start.
