Islam had many positive effects on Arabian society of that time. Islam relieved the people from superstitious beliefs and fears. It advised them to worship only ONE Almighty God who was Loving, Kind, Merciful, Forgiving and Protecting. Before Islam, people were generally illiterate and ignorant. Islam declared that seeking knowledge was obligatory on each Muslim man and woman. It taught them that all human beings were the off-spring of Hazrat Adam (AS), no one had any superiority to other. They are brothers. People should live in peace and harmony. They should not bury their daughters alive, as was their custom before the advent of Islam. Islam taught them to be kind, sacrificing and helpful to the poor, needy, orphans and the helpless. Islam exercised countless effects on human society.

If you read the Koran, you quickly learn that Islam has degraded women's rights, the ability to learn (if it's not in the Koran, you don't need to know it, according to Mohammed). It is an extremely intolerant religion - if you are not a believer, you are an infidel, and should either be converted or die.

Women in particular are in trouble in Islam. Look at the countries controlled by the Taliban, who insist upon a strict interpretation of the Koran. If a woman shows her ankle, she is guilty of tempting a man and can receive the death penalty. In Judeo-

Christian societies, the man also bears some responsibility for having such a weak will that he gave in! Women are not allowed to learn, and are not allowed outside without a male (even if the "male" is 8 years old). And they dare call this "freedom".

If you are not a believer in Islam, one who does believe can lie to you to achieve their goals, with no guilt that they are doing wrong for not telling the truth.

Almost all positive contributions to society have been offered by the holders of judeo-christian beliefs which hold that a God with unchanging rules will ultimately judge all, that ALL people are worthy of God's love and compassion. It is this belief in a personal, compassionate, intelligent God that has led people to believe that if a God of order created the world, there must be order to be discovered in it, (though the Catholic church didn't always agree with it.....) leading to discoveries in medicine, physics, astronomy, chemistry, etc. It is the belief that all men are created in God's image that led to the Red Cross and other "humanitarian" charitable organizations. In areas untouched by Christianity, the sick, the poor, the ailing, are left to themselves, because they must have done something to deserve it.

In lots of ways like people are muslims, they follow the five pillars so there's morality and wisedom. They don't fall into the temptations of the world because they believe God is always watching, hearing, and knowing and they fear God, the scale of good deeds and bad deeds, they Last Day, the punishment for sin, the reward for good deeds and so on.
