The Puritans were the only religious group in Essex County. Everyone who was invovled believed in the Puritan teachings.

∙ 12y agoEveryone involved followed the Puritan beliefs and it was Puritan religious law that made "witchcraft" a felony punishable by hanging and allowed Giles Corey to be pressed under stones until he entered a plea in court or died.
