A serial cable does not have an IP (internet protocol) address.
Normally it is the NIC on your computer/xbox/printer (if a network printer)/laptop/router etc that hold an IP address
NIC stands for Network Interface Card, and this is the place where you would plug your RJ45 (ethernet lead) into.
Of course you also have wireless cards.
