A VR-4 will do it in 5.4 seconds and the Base and SL will do it in 7.5 seconds
3000gt's never came with a 2.4l engine
i don't know about the 3000gt but Mitsubishi is very good i bought one brand new and had it for 15 yrs the most money i put into it at one time was $583 [morri908] I own a 1993 Mitsubishi 3000GT SL (non turbo). It's a great car. It takes forever for a part to break, but remember that when it does it'll cost you quite a bit to fix (... well, just slightly higher then other cars.) And remember that it only takes Premium fuel
The 12mm bolts on each end bearing cap should be torqued to 14 ftlbs. The 10mm bolts on the bearing caps in between should be torqued at 8 ftlbs. This is from the Mitsubishi 6G7 overhaul manual for the DOHC engine. next time post your engine, if is turbo or not... that will help
go to autozone.com and they have online vehicle guides.
slow 16.5@ around 85+
if the timing belt does go on gto it would be a miracle if you didn't bend half of the valves ! its whats called an interference motor. if something gets out of time - you get major interference, costs $$$$$
the 1992 3000gt vr4 had 300 horsepower and 307 lb-ft of torque. The quickest year was 1995 where the vr4 ran a quarter mile time of 13.5 seconds and a 0-60 time of 5.4 seconds.

0-60mph for a 2000 Eclipse GT is 7.0 seconds, quarter mile: 15.4
0-60 in 7.5The 98' Mitsubishi 3000gt should have the same thing as the 97'.The(stock)97' has a V6 181 cu.inch 3.0 liter single overhead cam w/161hp @4400rpm and 185(lbs,ft) of torque @4000rpm and weight is at 3131lbs.In a 1/4 mile it runs 16.1sec. and In 0-60 in 7.5sec.So you should have the same thing if its STOCK Ok, The stock times may be difficult to find but I've owned 3 sl's one stock the other HEAVILY modified. My stock 95 gets 0-60 in about 6.1 takin it to 6krpm 80%throttle. around 5.9 all the way and this is with some wieght reduction. As i recal all the 3000gt non vr4 after 96 or 97 did not come with the DOHC but in fact came with the SOHC only. so only the sohc base or vr4 was what you could get. Not like previous years where you had the base (161hp) sl (222hp) vr4 (300-320hp). And sl does NOT stand for SLow......idiots. It clearly stands for SPORT LUXURY. So for a base 0-60 for a 98 im guessin between 6.7 - 7.5 stock. Theres youtube vids where people are hitting 6.5 easy with there 161hp base model, and sl's are hitting 5.5 easy. Every car is different tho and all depends on the driver. My opinion.....get a 97 vr4.....0-60 4.7 sec stock. (0-60times.com.) Hope this helps a bit.
changing the timing belt is a 1 time shot. 3000gt engines are interference motors, which means if the belt breaks or slips the pistons will hit and bend the intake and exhaust valves. you can also hit the valves if you do not correctly time the cams and crankshaft properly. if you still feel like taking a chance you can got to www.stealth316.com and www.team3s.com they have technical pages that explain in depth how to change the timing belt. mitsubishi recommend 54000
I had this done about a year ago on my 94 GT SL. You also need to have water pump done at the same time. Should cost around $1500 and after 75000 miles really needs to be done. It that belt goes your motor is history.
