Islam states that women and men are equal. However cultural influence and beliefs are being portrayed as Islam which it is not.

AnswerWomen played key economic roles, from milking camels and weaving cloth, to rasing children. because the men of the clan were often on the move, many tribes traced descent through the mother rather than the father. men and Women were allowed multiple marraige partners. To seal a marriage contract, the man was required to pay a bride- price to his prospective wife's family. Despite the women's careers, women were not by any means considered equal to men. they couldn't gain glory as warriors which was the most prized occupation of the bedouins. their status depended on the custom of individual clans and tribes rather than on legal codes.

this was obtained from the AP edition World Civilizations: the Global Experience pg. 126.

The quote from 126 is of the pre-islamic Africa. Pg. 134 is better in explaining the family roles in the Ummayad Age. For a bigger picture, Pg. 136 works.

Islamic society can vary significantly depending on the country and cultural context. In general, Islamic societies are characterized by a strong sense of community, family values, and adherence to Islamic principles and teachings. Social classes exist but may not be as rigid as in Western societies. In terms of gender, inequalities can exist due to traditional roles and interpretations of Islamic teachings, but there is also diversity in attitudes towards gender roles within Islamic societies.
