Narcolepsy, primarily. It is also promoted as a "wakefulness agent" for people who work extended hours, swing-shifts, etc.

My experience: not an effective medication for ADD/HD per se but better than nothing (good mood enhancer despite bad headaches in the beginning).

Is there a negative synergism between Depakote and Provigil?

I found there to be a negative synergism as one who was prescribed both at the same time earlier in treatment for bipolar. The provigil was used to combat side effects of drowsiness from depakote. As a recovering drug addict, i felt that the provigil made me feel extremely anxious, and would compare the feeling to the anxiety of drinking way too much caffeine or taking too much adderol or cocaine. Of course, the provigil helped me feel not drowsy, but not drowsy to the point of panic, paranoia, and anxiety. This is my personal experience and I'm also not a doctor. Discuss anything of this nature with a doctor always. Depakote has always worked for me, aside from some side effects, but the addition of the Provigil made me a little crazy. I would be careful taking it. I was also quite wary of the drug Provigil when i found out that the original use for it was too keep soldiers in Irag awake for extended periods of time!! Sounds scary.

Is provigil the same as desoxyn?

No; Provigil is a brand name for the drug modafinil while Desoxyn is a brand name for the drug methamphetamine. Modafinil is used to treat narcolespy and shift-work sleep disorder, along with other conditions as determined by a doctor. Modafinil is classified as an atypical stimulant and has a lower potential for abuse than most traditional stimulants. Methamphetamine is used to treat ADHD and obesity; it is rarely used due to it's extreme potential for abuse.
