This answer is not authoritative, but there is one advertised on the internet for sale in Washington state for $175.00. That may be reasonable, considering what it cost 35 years ago when I bought mine. People usually think of a pump action or double barrel, not a bolt action like this gun, so this is not the most common or popular format. It is a well-made and reliable hunting gun.

yes 583 1 is the first J C Higgins shotgun model and yes it is 12 gauge .It was manufactured by Harrington & Richardson for Sears in 1945
